Contraventions Act of 1997The objectives of the Contraventions Act affecting boaters have been to decriminalize certain federal offences, to ease the courts' workload and to improve the enforcement of federal legislation. There is now added incentive for all boaters to obey the rules that apply to Canadian waters. Recent changes to federal law give enforcement authorities in Ontario the option of issuing a ticket instead of requiring the offender to appear in court. This makes it easier for enforcement officers to keep our waterways safer. As an example, you can expect to pay the following fines if your caught breaking the following laws:
